The Ministry of MSME has introduced a new registration process known as Udyam Registration. All existing Udyog Aadhaar certificate holders are required to re-register on the new Udyam Registration portal. Every micro, small, and medium enterprise previously registered under Udyog Aadhaar must complete the registration again under the Udyam system

New Definition of MSME under Udyam

Old MSME Classification

Earlier, the classification of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) was based solely on the amount of investment in plant and machinery or equipment. A Micro Enterprise was defined by an investment of up to ₹1 crore and a turnover of less than ₹5 crore. Small Enterprises could invest up to ₹10 crore with turnover below ₹50 crore. Medium Enterprises had an upper investment limit of ₹50 crore and a turnover not exceeding ₹250 crore. Before this unified classification, manufacturing and service sectors had separate thresholds—making it more complex and often confusing for business owners to determine their category.

Revised MSME Classification

With the introduction of Udyam Registration, the Ministry of MSME revised the classification to include both investment and turnover criteria—applicable uniformly to both manufacturing and service sectors. Under this updated system, Micro Enterprises can now invest up to ₹2.5 crore and have a turnover of up to ₹10 crore. Small Enterprises may invest up to ₹25 crore with turnover up to ₹100 crore, and Medium Enterprises can invest up to ₹125 crore with turnover not exceeding ₹500 crore. This broader and more inclusive definition is designed to cover a wider range of businesses, offering them access to various government benefits and schemes under the MSME.

Procedure for re-registration for existing MSME enterprise for Udyam certificate

Step 1: Go to the Udyam Registration Website

Start by visiting the official Udyam Registration Portal.

Step 2: Choose Re-Registration Option

On the homepage, click on the “Udyam Re Registration” option to begin the process.

Step 3: Enter Required Details

Fill in the re-registration form with essential information like the applicant’s name, mobile number, email ID, and state.

Step 4: Review and Submit the Form

Double-check all the details you have entered for accuracy. Once everything looks good, click the "Submit" button to proceed.

Step 5: Make Payment

After submitting the form, pay the required re-registration fee using online payment options such as credit/debit cards, net banking, or UPI.

Step 6: OTP Verification
