New Msme Registration Process is effective from 1st July 2020
The Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) declared a notification dated 26th June 2020, informing the members about the new msme process of registration of enterprises starting from 1st July 2020 named "Udyam Registration".
After the successful registration on the udyam registration portal, they will provide an e-certificate with a unique identification number and a QR code.
Under this system, a registered business or enterprise is known as an Udyam, and the process of getting registered is called Udyam Registration.
Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) can complete their registration through the Udyam Registration Portal. The entire process is online, paperless, and based on self-declaration, making it simple and convenient for business owners. In most cases, applicants do not need to upload physical documents or proof during registration. The main requirement for completing the process is a valid Aadhaar number.
Once the registration is successfully completed, the enterprise is assigned a unique registration number, followed by the issuance of an Udyam Registration Certificate. This certificate includes a dynamic QR code, which allows users to access the enterprise’s details directly from the MSME Ministry’s portal. Additionally, this registration is permanent and does not require renewal.
The Udyam Registration system is connected with government databases and automatically retrieves important business details linked with PAN and GST, such as investment and annual turnover information. It is also integrated with the Income Tax and GST systems to make verification and compliance easier and more accurate.
Businesses that were previously registered under EM-II, Udyog Aadhaar (UAM), or any older MSME registration system were required to migrate to the new Udyam Registration system. Udyog Aadhaar registrations remained valid only until 31 March 2021, after which re-registration under Udyam became necessary to continue receiving MSME benefits.
Each business can have only one Udyam Registration, but multiple business activities, including manufacturing and service-related activities, can be added under the same registration.
To support entrepreneurs, the government has also set up facilitation centers such as District Industries Centers (DICs) and single-window support systems to help businesses complete the registration process smoothly.
The Udyam Registration process is simple, fast, and user-friendly. It reduces paperwork, saves time, and lowers registration costs, helping entrepreneurs focus more on growing their businesses. This initiative also supports the Government of India’s goal of improving ease of doing business and strengthening MSMEs in the global market.
